Summer Sale Hidden Gems: Deadlight

I don’t know how I missed this one last year when it came out, but I’m making up for lost time now.

Deadlight is a moody, atmospheric side-scrolling platformer with a strong survival horror element with an aesthetic that reminds me of the very good Walking Dead game by Telltale Games.  Apparently  Deadlight was an Xbox Live Arcade title that was released in 2012, but Steam had the PC version on sale yesterday for something like $3.00; I picked it up and I have been extremely satisfied with its combination of platforming, puzzle-solving, and combat.  Here’s a look at the game:

I definitely recommend picking this up if it goes back on sale. Right now it’s 50% off at the Steam Store – which comes out to about $7.50 – but the Summer Sale will be going on until the 22nd, so keep an eye out for a price drop again if you’re iffy on spending that much on what is essentially an XBLA title ported to the PC.  I haven’t had a problem with the mouse and keyboard controls, but the game does support gamepads, so keep that in mind if you’re thinking of trying it out!

  1. Mark of the Ninja was a similarly enjoyable side scroller, I will probably pick this up soon. Thanks for the recommendation, Dave.
